These were developed as part of our Firewise certification process. All topics in our newsletter are directly tied to our Action Plan.

Fire Hydrants: According to Cory Olesen, the Water Distribution Supervisor of Santa Barbara, "All the hydrants on the roads and lanes in your area are in service, operational, and have been inspected within the last year." Why it matters: Embers from wildfires can enter your house and spread through your property in ways you never thought about.
What to do: Gustavo Agregdano from the Santa Barbara Fire Safe Council provides a FREE, thorough, and personal home and property evaluation that indicates where you are most vulnerable to wildfires. He is in high demand, so book an online appointment soon or contact Gustavo directly (gagredano@sbfiresafecouncil.org or text him at 805-252-6253).

Homeowners are not required to implement any of the recommended changes, and there is no regulatory enforcement associated with this evaluation.

• Prepare in advance for smoke and ash. Get tips on setting up a clean air room from the Air Pollution Control District.
